Lions Outlook: Ansah’s Future in Detroit

The one time No. 5 overall pick in the 2013 draft and Pro Bowler in 2015, Ziggy Ansah‘s future in Detroit could be in jeopardy. We saw what happened with Suh and we really hope it won’t happen again. So, with that being said we must trade Ansah if he can’t stay healthy this year. His contract is up after this season and he will want top pass rusher money. So let’s look at the top 5 trade candidates:

1. Patriots 2. Titans. 3. Buccaneers. 4. Panthers. 5. Chiefs.

Potential trades:

1. Patriots: Ezekiel Ansah DE, Nevin Lawson CB, Lions: Malcolm Butler CB. 2019 3rd

This may sound crazy, but we could pull this off via a very Patriot-esque way. Nevin Lawson is a starting corner in the NFL and they just signed Stephon Gilmore to a huge deal this offseason. Malcolm Butler is on a contract year and with the Lions upcoming contract status he could be re-signed.

2. Titans: Ezekiel Ansah DE, Lions: 2018 3rd

This would be the last trade I’d want out of this scenario. However, realistically this trade is good for a couple of reasons. This would give Detroit an asset on an injury plagued player on a contract year demanding a big money contract.

3. Buccaneers: Ezekiel Ansah DE. Lions: Noah Spence DE, 2018 5th

If the Buccaneers would do this, this would be a huge deal. I would love to see Noah Spence in a Lions’ jersey. Along with a 5th round pick this would be a huge win for Detroit.

4. Panthers: Ezekiel Ansah DE, Paul Worrilow LB, Lions: Shaq Thompson LB

Although this trade probably won’t go through, I would love to see it happen. The Lions would get a very good young linebacker for this defensive core, while the Panthers would get a starter at LB as well as a former Pro Bowl pass rusher.

5. Chiefs: Ezekiel Ansah DE, Lions: 2018 2nd

This would be a good trade for us. The chiefs would most likely accept this due to Super Bowl aspirations as they could use a pro bowl pass rusher. Also, in Kansas City they have a lot of depth and would be able to keep Ziggy healthy and fresh with less reps throughout the season.

What else can Detroit do?

Well, if they don’t make a trade before the trade deadline, I don’t see the Lions re-signing Ansah if he’s asking for big money. If he wants a 3-year small “prove it” with big bonuses for playing time, sacks, and pro bowl appearances then maybe. This would be my ideal move keeping Ziggy in Detroit seeing that if he is healthy he is a Pro Bowl edge player.
