5 Things to Watch for in the Steelers Third Preseason Game

On Saturday the Steelers play the Indianapolis Colts in the third preseason game. They didn’t look very good against the Falcons last week (especially the defense), so what can we expect in this game?

1) The Starters Will Play!

Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and James Harrison have not played one snap of any preseason game so far. Most teams play their starters in the third preseason game and the Steelers’ starters are expected to play at least one or two series, possibly more, depending on how they do.

2) Landry Jones Will Play Too

Landry Jones also has not played a snap in the preseason due an abdominal injury. It is obvious Joshua Dobbs is not ready to play in a regular season game yet. Can Landry show improvement from 2016?

3) How Will the Secondary lLook?

In Sunday’s game against the Falcons the secondary was picked apart, as the Falcons moved down the field at will. Will the secondary improve? Who will play? There is talk that Coty Sensabaugh has replaced Ross Cockrell as a starter at cornerback. Also Mike Hilton may have replaced William Gay at slot cornerback.

4) How Much Will James Conner Play?

Conner had a heavy workload last game, rushing 20 times for 98 yards in his preseason debut. Considering he is supposed to be the backup to Le’Veon Bell, he could use as much experience as possible. Also, Mike Tomlin called him out for his poor special teams play. It will be interesting to see how he handles that challenge.

5) The Wide Receiver Battle Continues

The Steelers still have an abundance of talent at wide receiver and it is still unknown who will make the team. It is safe to say Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant are the starters out wide, with Eli Rogers starting at slot receiver. Then it gets complicated. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a lock to make the team because he is this year’s second round draft pick. Then you have Sammie Coates, Cobi Hamilton, Justin Hunter, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Demarcus Ayers fighting for the remaining spots.
