After acquiring Paul George in probably the best trade I have seen this off-season; the OKC Thunder now have to ask themselves "What about Westbrook?" Just last season Westbrook signed an extension to stay with the Thunder through the 2017-18 season. Once his contract is up Westbrook is free to see what his market is. Los Angeles is definitely in the cards for Westbrook. Westbrook spends his off-season there and that is where the majority of his family is. However, Paul George said in an interview that if they are winning (by winning he means WCF) there would be no reason to leave. This makes it sound to me like Russ might just sign an extension coming up pretty soon.
My dilemma is if he does not re-sign, then what? Do you take your chances like you did with KD and possibly end up with nothing? Or do you trade him away? This is a very double edged sword. If you take a chance that he will re-sign in OKC there is a chance he walks. If you trade him, what was the point of trading for Paul George? Let's all hope and pray Westbrook decides to re-sign very, very soon.
