What the Paul George trade means for OKC.

Now, we all know the blockbuster trade of Paul George to the Thunder went down. But what is the future of the franchise? Paul George being on a one year deal and Westbrook could opt out next summer.

The nightmare for all Thunder fans: they both leave to LA next summer. The best case scenario: PG and Westbrook decide they like to play with each other and think OKC is the place to win, and they both sign 3-4 year extensions.

If PG decides to stay I think it will be sooner rather than later, but for sure by mid season of 2018. If OKC can now add one or two more good pieces (backup PG/wing defender) I do see them as formidable contenders. With the Patrick Patterson signing it seems to me they are done in free agency with basically no cap left, unless they could dump salary. If they can also bring in Tim Hardaway Jr, Michael Carter-Williams, Aaron Brooks or Rudy Gay it will change a lot on this squad especially when Westbrook is off the court.

Now for next season, I see them being a 50+ win team and a 3-4 seed depending on Houstons’ record and what other pieces they can bring in to this already dynamic DangeRuss/PG duo.
